2011 / 2012

Future history books will have a lot to say about 2011. The world's most wanted terrorist died, revolts sprung up across the Middle East, dictators fled and also died, the world's population reached 7 billion, droughts and calamities struck millions of people in Africa and Asia, a prince got married, a tech-god finally succumbed to mortality and the world was rumored to end but didn't. We had quite an eventful year.

I started 2011 knowing it was gonna be a heck of a ride. I felt it in my bones. I heard it from God. I was expectant. And I didn't get disappointed. No one died in my personal history, thank God for that. My year won't make it to history books, but it was eventful enough for me.

I went home thrice this year- twice for bridesmaid duties, for 5 days each. I set foot on Africa for the first time. I joined in the revelry for a Carnivale in Germany. I once again felt how it was to have my heart broken. And how it felt to heal. I fasted for the first time in my life, and God has been so faithful with the promises I claimed. I learned how to surf. And how amazing it is to catch and ride a wave. I went on spontaneous road trips as far as 15 hours away. I made new friends. I got a new job. I finally registered to get my UAE driving license. And, I got a very pleasant surprise before the year ended. Something I never expected.

The last church service for 2011 reminded us to be thankful, everyday, evermore. No matter what. Because whatever happens, God has the best plans for us. And so, 2012 begins with my heart full of gratitude, for all the promises granted and the challenges that were overcome. The world continues to turn, and we have yet to see the best that God has to give.
