i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

I read a status update in Facebook that said something like, "For couples, it's Valentine's Day. For singles, it's Tuesday." (Whoever's status that was, I hope you don't mind. :)) For me, the 14th of February has always meant something more. When I was a kid, it meant digging up and cutting up photos of my parents to make a collage, writing letters that spoke of my love for them, thinking of creative gifts that I could afford with my allowance. When I started working, it meant looking for the best restaurant I could take them to, and well, still thinking of creative gifts that I could afford with my salary. Because, on the 14th of February, more than 3 decades ago, Elso and Victoria vowed to love each other for better or worse and all that. A decade later, they had me, and they lived happily ever after. :P
Ok, so life isn't always a perfect fairytale. Getting married on Valentine's Day doesn't guarantee that either. My folks have been separated by oceans and deserts, oil booms and wars, what-have-you. They coped with having a long distance relationship during a time when there was no internet, no instant messaging, no iPhones, no Blackberrys. It couldn't have been easy. But they did it. And that's only one of the reasons why their love is so awesome.
They have their fights of course. They have their differences. They make each other crazy sometimes. They make me crazy sometimes. (I love you both. :D) But at the end of the day, they carry each other's hearts. They are living proof of that popular verse from 1 Corinthians. And I'm very blessed to have grown up witnessing a love like theirs.
Happy Anniversary, Tats & Nanay. ♥
